Q: I have a disability and no means of transport. How do I get taxi vouchers for people with disabilities or health related conditions?

A:The Total scheme is managed by the West Coast Regional Council. Your GP may have the required information. If not please phone our Service and we will provide this.


Q: I need a mobility parking card. Where do I go? Mobility parking is managed by NZCCS throughout New Zealand.

A:You can ask at any NZCCS office or the Disability Information Service for forms or current criteria for obtaining a parking card. GP assessment is required.


Q: Where can I get a wheelchair for short term (daily) loan?

A:The Disability Information Service has a wheelchair for loan, particularly for shopping etc. Booking is required as it is frequently utilised. Longer term to be discussed with Manager or Information officer.

Q: Where can I buy hearing aid batteries?

A: The Disability Information Service sell hearing aid batteries on behalf of the Hearing Association. If 'The Warehouse' is in your region batteries are available through them otherwise try your local Pharmacy or the Audiology Department at your local hospital.


Q: If I need to contact a health or disability organisation where do I get contact information from?

A: By phoning your nearest Disability Information Service. The West Coast numbers are on the front page of this website.


Q: I intend to travel to your region and am wheelchair mobile. Can you provide me with information on accessible accommodation, recreation etc?

A: Yes. If you contact us with specific enquiries we will research and provide the required information.


Q: I have a family member who needs a disability aid. Where do I go for this?

A: The Disability Information Service can provide pamphlets on aids and devices. We would refer to an Occupational Therapy Department if assessment was required to ensure the product being purchased would fully meet the clients needs and was the best/safest for them to use.


Q: I, (or a family member or friend) have/has been newly diagnosed with a health condition/disability. Where can I get information relating to this?

A: The Disability Information Service can provide information but it may be more relevant to refer to the related organisation and we could do this. Referral would only occur with the agreement of the person enquiring.
